Free Brief Advice Legal Clinic
First Mondays of Each Month **Temporarily Suspended Until Further Notice**Doors Open: 5:30pm (Volunteer Lawyers available at 6:30pm)
Contact: Please stop by the clinic in the Vineyard Community Center and volunteers will assist you.
Over the years, the number of people who wished to see our volunteer lawyers has been much greater than the number of volunteers. In fact, the demand has been so great that it has been very difficult to meet with everyone who hoped to discuss their needs with a lawyer.
In order to better meet the needs of our visitors and our volunteers, everyone who wishes to meet with a lawyer will be required to come to the clinic, in person, to complete an informational form.
Your information form will be reviewed by our volunteers to determine whether your needs fall within the scope of the services that the clinic offers. You will be contacted to let you know whether or not we are able to help you.
Subject to volunteer expertise and availability, consultations in the following areas are provided:
• Minor Civil Matters
• Minor Criminal Matters (including sealing of criminal records)
• Civil Protection Orders (CPO)
• Debtor/ Creditor
• Landlord-Tenant Disputes (no evictions)
• Micro-Entrepreneurial Services
• MediationNote: No divorce or custody cases.
If your request is one that falls within the above guidelines, then you will be contacted and given an appointment to consult with a lawyer. You will then receive consultation and advice to help you better understand your legal rights and how to help yourself.
The Vineyard Free Legal Clinic offers brief advice to those who cannot afford a lawyer. (Low-income individuals at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.)
As a brief advice clinic, it is not possible to accept cases for personal representation. In truly exceptional cases, a lawyer may agree to represent you. However, representation depends on the nature of your legal issue, the expertise of our volunteer lawyers and their personal schedule.
